Who Knows?

We recently found out we are again going to be Grandparents this September.  Our son and his wife are expecting!  This new baby will be joining a sister who will be three in August.

Many questions have be pestering my mind for the last several days.....

Boy or Girl?
How many pounds?
Will the baby become an engineer or a scientist or........?
What day will the baby be born?
Will everything be okay?
What will they name the baby?
What color will the hair be?
What color will the eyes be?
Will sibling rivalry start to exist upon birth?
Will we be there when the baby is born?
And last, but not least.....
What sort of quilt will I make?
What color?
What pattern?
What size?

Life is good!!

Love

I started looking for things to write about...I know ideas are all around me, but I still have a hard time coming up with what to actually pen.  Yesterday when I was unwrapping a piece of Dove chocolate I read the message inside the wrapper.  It said "open your eyes to all the love around you".  So here are some examples that I've noticed in the last 24 hours.

The spagetti dinner that was ready for me when I came home from work - including a bottle of bubbly wine.  (compliments of my husband)

My cocker spaniel's devotion to me!

A hug from my daughter.

A phone call from my son.

A friend's words telling me "thank you."

My grandchildren's greetings ( "Hi Mimi!")

A hug from my Mom and the same Mom telling me to "be careful".

Real Live Turkeys!

Have you ever been driving down the road daydreaming, and all of a sudden you are brought back to reality?  This has happened to me twice this week.  And it's all about seeing something out of place in your normal routine.

The first time this week I saw a flock of wild turkeys, my husband and I were driving down a busy four lane highway.  They were in a field about six feet from the edge of the road.  Then later this week, I noticed another flock of about twenty of these large birds.  They looked so out of place and they were indeed strutting about and around each other!

Now I am wondering....how many times have I driven by them and not seen them?

Book Club

I belong to a monthly book club that has been meeting for the last five years. We have fourteen members ranging in age from mid thirties to mid eighties. What surprises me the most about this group is how close we have become as a unit. The books elicit feelings the ladies share with our group. We have laughed and in many cases we have cried over a topic that was close to our hearts. Because of this community of readers I will not miss a meeting. These ladies have become a part of my life and they are important to me.

So far in 2012 we have read:

  1. Jeremy Finken and the Meaning of Life by Wendy Mass

  2. The Room by Emma Donoghue
In March we will read The Back of Beyond by Barbara Bickmore and in April we will read The Friday Night Kniting Club by Kate Jacobs.

April Book Selection

Our book club selection for April is Girl Of The Limberlost by Gene Stratton-Porter. Her books have stood the test of time. I still remember reading The Harvester as my first selection of her novels. My friend Nancy, who grew up in Connecticut, received a set of GSP books when she was in high school as a gift from her favorite Aunt (over 60 years ago). When Nancy told me that memory, I remember feeling like I had missed out on a good book and promptly took The Harvester home from the library to read that very night! I haven't read Girl Of The Limberlost yet, so I am looking forward to another good read.

The Buffy Movie

My very favorite movie of all time is Lady & The Tramp. It has become known as The Buffy Movie at our house (in honor of my cocker spaniel). I think my grandchildren love it almost as much as I do. They know most of the words by heart. When they grow up, will they remember watching The Buffy Movie with Mimi? I sure hope so, but even if they don't remember--I will!
